Overview
The Forest Resilience Task Force was established via Ordinance 2023-058 to develop a comprehensive forest resilience plan for Whatcom County. The Task Force's forest resilience plan will incorporate community values and engage science and evidence-based strategies and actions for achieving the following priorities:
- Sustaining a prosperous timber economy
- Restoring healthy forest ecosystems for fish and wildlife
- Supporting robust recreation opportunities
- Improving watershed health
- Addressing stream high and low flow issues
- Enhancing carbon sequestration and storage
- Improving wildfire, pest, and disease resilience
- Increasing the overall resilience of Whatcom County forests to climate impacts.
The Task Force will also review existing policies and programs, recommend best practices, and propose a framework for future coordination and collaboration with local, state, federal, and tribal forest management agencies.
Whatcom County contracted Triangle Associates, Inc. to facilitate the work of the Forest Resilience Task Force. Triangle Associates will provide support in project administration, meeting facilitation, plan development, community engagement efforts, and more.
