Birch Bay Beach Park
Proposed park improvements include installing a concrete sidewalk at the park entrance to allow access to the new walking trail along Birch Bay, replacing fencing that borders Birch Bay Drive, removing the deteriorating asphalt paving, renovating lawn areas, installing park signage and perimeter landscaping.

Canyon Lake Community Forest Access Road Repair
In 2008 a landslide limited public access to Canyon Lake Community Forest. Whatcom County is currently working with the Whatcom Land Trust, Sierra Pacific and the Department of Natural Resources to secure an alternate access route to the park.

Hovander Park Flood Restoration
Hovander Park received significant damage during the November 2021 flood events. Work is needed to repair damage to roads, trails, parking lots, playgrounds, fencing, grounds, turf, utilities, and buildings.

Hovander Park Buildings Improvements
This project will remove the old storage barn located at the entrance to the boat launch and the current shop building. Both buildings have deteriorated supports and foundation failures. A new shop building will be constructed out of the core activity area and at a higher elevation for safety and functional purposes.

Nesset Farm House Restoration
This early 1900's home is planned to be part of historical experience at South Fork Park when developed. A long-term restoration effort is underway. The initial phase is complete and included structural repairs to the farm house and machine shed. In 2017 roof repairs to both structures and further assessment of interior upgrades will be completed.

Lake Whatcom Park Development
This project implements the Lookout Mountain Forest Preserve and Lake Whatcom Park Recreational Trail Plan.

Plantation Rifle Range Environmental Remediation
Whatcom County has entered into an agreement with the Washington Department of Ecology related to lead impacts at Plantation Rifle Range. To address legacy lead contamination, clean-up efforts include removal of contaminated soil and implementation of proactive steps to prevent future impacts on water quality.

Plantation Rifle Range HVAC Replacement
Whatcom County Parks & Recreation has applied for a state grant that combined with county funding will provide a new HVAC system at the Plantation Rifle Range. The current HVAC system was installed in 1983. We look forward to replacing the system which will reduce energy consumption and continue to allow the indoor range to be used safely by citizens, law enforcement agencies and organizations.

Silver Lake Park Renovations
The Silver Lake Park Improvement Project, which began as a multi-phase project in 2015, includes resurfacing and reconstruction of walkways and roads, renovation of campsites to include site leveling and electrical upgrades, and construction of new shower and restroom facilities in each campground.
