The Birch Bay Drive Pavement Rehabilitation project is in the home stretch. The major paving work was completed late Thursday. The remaining work includes minor utility adjustments, replacing lane striping and pavement markings (such as crosswalk lines and stop lines), and a short punch list. The County and its contractor thought the paving operation this week went very smoothly. This success was largely due to the community's cooperation, with folks using alternate routes, adhering to traffic control, and driving slowly through the work zone. We appreciate your patience and understanding during these disruptions.
Looking ahead to next week's work, please expect temporary single-lane closures and short-term crosswalk closures. These closures will allow the crew to raise utility hole covers to be flush with the new pavement surface. They will also install any remaining pavement markers not completed this week. There will be far fewer construction vehicles and large equipment to watch out for compared to this week, but please continue to keep an eye out for workers in the roadway.
The road centerline striping will be sprayed at the end of next week. Due to anticipated scheduling conflicts, fog line striping may not occur until after the holiday weekend, so please drive with extra caution until that is complete. During painting work, please follow flagger directions and be attentive to traffic control to avoid driving over wet paint. Motorists have a direct impact on the quality of the lane striping. Being careful and attentive can avoid unwanted stray paint lines and tire marks, leaving a nice-looking roadway for everyone to appreciate.
Thank you again for your patience during this project.
