Public Works – N Lake Samish Bridge Replacement Project

Posted on: July 30, 2024

N. Lake Samish Bridge Now Closed to Watercraft Traffic

Construction of the new N. Lake Samish Bridge continues to progress with the recent installation of the temporary work trestle. The next critical tasks include installing the temporary sewer bypass, demolishing and removing the existing bridge, and performing the drilled shaft work.

This stage of work requires placing turbidity curtains across the lake starting Tuesday, July 30. These curtains protect the lake during construction by containing sediment or debris. However, they also prevent watercraft traffic from passing through the work area. Lake users will see warning buoys on both sides of the bridge, indicating the area is closed. For everyone’s safety, please do not attempt to pass through this area while the turbidity curtain and buoys are in place.

Marine traffic will likely be impacted at the bridge until mid-September due to the various critical tasks involved in the construction process. When information becomes available, updates to access will be posted on the project website.
