About BPAC

Who are we?

The Whatcom County Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) was established in 1991 and is directed to coordinate with various county staff and residents to ultimately provide guidance to the County Executive related to potential improvements in the county's pedestrian and bicycling infrastructure.

Our goal is that walking and riding a bicycle - for transportation and recreation - can be safe and welcoming for people of all ages and abilities in Whatcom County.

What we do

The purpose of the Bicycle / Pedestrian Advisory Committee is to assist the county in the planning, funding, development and implementation of facilities and programs that will result in the increased safety and use of bicycle and pedestrian travel as a significant and beneficial mode of transportation and recreation.

Meetings

  • 6:00 p.m., the 2nd Wednesday of every month 
  • All meetings are being held in a hybrid format - see Link below. The next scheduled open public meeting will take place on September 11 at 6:00 pm. 
  • Public is welcome to attend the meeting in-person at the Civic Building Garden Level Conference Room. See location map here.

The Bicycle / Pedestrian Advisory Committee has 11 members.  Members must be residents of Whatcom County who have an interest in promoting the use of bicycle/pedestrian travel for transportation and recreation.

History

The Whatcom County Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) was created by Whatcom County Executive Pete Kremen in 2001, and was approved by the County Council through Ordinance 2001-013 to fulfill the purpose set for the Committee.
