The bid advertisement period for the Beach Avenue Roadway & Slope Failure Repair project closed on Tuesday, June 11. Unfortunately, the County did not receive any bids for the work.
Potential contractors provided valuable feedback on this bid package. One concern raised was the logistics of moving construction materials to Lummi Island, which was a greater challenge than anticipated in the bid. The main reason is that the Whatcom Chief has a 50,000GVW load limit and limited total capacity, hindering the ability to transport the required materials efficiently.
We expect to reintroduce the Beach Avenue Roadway & Slope Failure Repair project for bid in the fall or winter, with construction in the summer of 2025. This will allow time to work with area contractors to address concerns with updated plans and specifications. Thank you for your patience during this process.
