Superior Court Judicial Officers, Judicial Assistants, and Court Reporters

Whatcom County Superior Court has 5 elected Judges and 4 Court Commissioners. The Superior Court Judges are elected to four-year terms and the Commissioners are appointed by the Judges.  A Presiding Judge supervises the judicial business of the Superior Court, acts as the spokesperson for the court, directs the Court Administrator in implementing administrative and general court policy, and preforms judicial and administrative duties as set forth in General Rule 29. The Judges, Court Commissioners, and Court Administrator meet regularly to set administrative and general court policy.

Each Judge has a Judicial Assistant who manages their caseload, maintains order in the courtroom, supervises jurors, and coordinates courtroom activities. Court Reporters are assigned to each department to maintain a record of hearings before the Judge. If a verbatim report of proceedings is required, it must be requested from the court reporter that was present. The fee for the transcript is independently managed by the court reporter. 

Documents that require a Judicial Officer's signatures should be sent to the assigned judge's judicial assistant. Do not file such documents with the Clerks office.
