Displaced and Seasonal Residents

Seasonal Residents (Snowbirds)

Just because you are out of town during an election doesn’t mean you can’t or shouldn’t vote. We can mail your ballot if you travel to a seasonal address each year. To ensure you receive your ballot, update your seasonal address and provide the first and last days you’ll receive mail at this address. We will send your ballot to that address between those days. Plan ahead. We mail 20 days before each election.

Please visit www.Votewa.govemail us, or call to add a seasonal address.

Although your mailing address can be anywhere in the world, your residential address must remain in Washington State. For more information on voting residency, visit Residency Requirements.

Voters Displaced Due to Natural Disaster

Voters who have been displaced as a result of a natural disaster such as flooding, fire, or other event may still use their previous address as their residence for voter registration purposes while temporarily living at another location.

  • If you are now living at a new residence that you consider your permanent address, you will need to update your voter registration with the new residential address. If you have not done so, you can update online at www.VoteWA.gov
  • If you are displaced from your permanent residence but have plans to return, you may remain registered to vote at that address. However, if you are living at a temporary location, you may need to update your mailing address at www.VoteWA.gov to ensure you receive a ballot in the next election.

Voters without a fixed permanent home

Voters currently without a fixed permanent home are eligible to register and vote in the upcoming election. Voters in this situation should be sure to update their address with their local county elections division as soon as possible. Voters without a fixed permanent home should be registered at the place they consider their “home base”.

  • "Home base" means a location the voter regularly returns to and intends to remain.
  • This can include a park, vacant lot or homeless shelter.
  • It’s important that a voter who is registered at a location that does not receive mail also designates a mailing address where they can pick up their ballot. This mailing address can be anywhere that the voter has the ability to access their mail on a regular basis and can include a post office box.

Voters in this situation, who did not receive or cannot access their mailed ballot, may always visit us in person. For any questions, call us at 360-778-5102.
