Project Summary

This project will grind and repave 2.25 miles of Birch Bay Drive. The work will be divided into two sections: Jackson Road to Alderson Road and Lora Lane to Shintaffer Road (see map). Improvements will also be made to pedestrian facilities, including replaced sidewalks, ADA ramps, and rapid flashing beacons at crosswalks.

Project Impacts

This work will involve single-lane closures between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday from April 29 to late May 2024 to complete grinding, paving, and lane striping operations.. If lane closures are required, signage and flaggers will direct traffic. Please slow down and drive carefully in work zones.

Parking restrictions will be implemented for parking spots within the work area (i.e. shoulders, angled parking stalls). These restrictions will be posted near the parking area 24 hours in advance.

Project Benefits

  • Newly paved and striped roadway – improves aesthetic, safety, and riding surface for motorists and bicycles.
  • Newly established crosswalks – safely access the berm at designated marked crossings with crosswalk stripes and pedestrian-operated rapid flashing beacons that improve pedestrian visibility.
  • Reconstructed pedestrian curb ramps – upgrades existing sidewalk entrances, crosswalks, and driveways to current ADA accessibility standards.
