Construction on the E. Smith Road and Hannegan Road Intersection Improvement Project begins May 29. The project features a multi-lane roundabout designed to enhance multimodal safety and improve traffic flow through the intersection.
Safety is our top priority during the project. To ensure this, the contractor will utilize various forms of traffic control during the first stage of construction. Please expect delays when traveling through the intersection during daylight hours and use alternate routes if possible. If you must travel through the intersection, please slow down, give space to all workers, and follow the directions provided by the traffic control workers. Sherriff’s office deputies may be present to assist with enforcement.
The first stage of work will last until after the 4th of July. During stage two of the project, the intersection will undergo a 25-day full closure. This closure will start after the 4th of July and end before the Northwest Washington Fair in Lynden. The specific closure dates will be available soon. A detour will be posted around the project site and on our County Travel Planner.
