Project Summary & Benefits

A 300-foot section of Drayton Harbor Road was damaged from a landslide of the supporting embankment during the November 2021 flood event. The affected portion of the roadway is located immediately west of the intersection with Shintaffer Road. For safety, the westbound lane of the roadway is closed, with vehicles restricted to a single-lane, alternating two-way traffic pattern. Travelers are encouraged to detour on Semiahmoo Parkway during this closure.

The County’s project to repair the road will include the following components:

  • Stabilize the roadway embankment slope
  • Reconstruct the roadway
  • Restore the two-lane traffic pattern
  • Install stormwater infrastructure, as required
  • Relocate various utilities, if impacted by the project

Project Updates

(9/24/24) The consultant team is diligently progressing on design and construction documents ahead of the bid advertisement this coming winter of 2025 and starting construction in the summer of 2025. A soldier pile retaining wall was selected as the preferred slope and roadway repair option as it minimizes excavation efforts and maintains local access during portions of construction. The county looks forward to completing this project and re-establishing two-way traffic on this busy roadway.
